Royal College of Music, London

This major extension to the Royal College of Music in South Kensington (opposite the Royal Albert Hall), infilled an existing rear courtyard with two new state-of-the-art performance spaces.  These were constructed within a new 6.5m deep basement, and both feature independent ‘box-within-a-box’ constructions to keep them acoustically separate from the rest of the structure.  The infill also houses the RCM’s museum, café and further practice rooms.  The design was carried out by Tom whilst working for Alan Baxter Ltd, working with John Simpson Architects.

This video, created by the Royal College of Music shows the construction process over a two year period set to music.
